UGC Awards Winners of various competitions organised under National Programme on Prevention of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions
Delhi, 11 Feb 2020: University Grants Commission (UGC) organised an award distribution ceremony on National Film, Logo and Poster Making Competition, as part of National Programme on Prevention of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs), in New Delhi
The Chief Guest of the ceremony, Sanjay Dhotre, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development was unable attend the programme due to parliamentary commitment. However, he sent his message congratulating the winners, participating institutions, students and teachers for showing keen interest in this initiative and wished them great success in their aesthetic endeavours.
This Programme has been launched by UGC with support of MHRD, to eradicate ragging in HEIs by undertaking a publicity campaign against ragging through various measures, including organising competitions like poster making, slogan writing, logo designing and film making for the students, teachers and general public.
UGC received 107 entries for Poster making, 75 entries for Logo, and 84 entries for Slogan writing and 161 entries for film making from universities/colleges and the general public.
A core committee of UGC finalized winners in all the categories – Poster making -3 , Logo designing -2, Slogan writing -3 and short film making -10. Prof. D.P Singh, Chairman, UGC awarded these 18 winners with a memento, a parker pen set, an anti-ragging T-shirt, a certificate, a book of Former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam “My Journey: Transforming Dreams into Actions,” besides a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- each to winners of film making and Rs. 10,000/- each to winners of Poster making, Logo designing and Slogan writing.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman, UGC highlighted zero tolerance policy adopted by UGC to curb the menace of ragging. He emphasised the major role played by awareness campaigns across HEIs. Further, he mentioned about several new initiatives taken by UGC under quality mandate for creating an enabling environment in HEIs for safety and security of students. On this occasion, Prof. Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice-Chairman, UGC and other senior officials and staff were also present.
