Sonali Mishra Takes Charge as First Woman Director General of Railway Protection Force

In a historic milestone, Ms. Sonali Mishra, IPS (1993 batch, Madhya Pradesh cadre), has assumed charge as the Director General of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), becoming the first woman to lead the 143-year-old force. Her appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and will continue until her superannuation on October 31, 2026.

With over 30 years of distinguished service, Ms. Mishra has held key roles in the CBI, BSF, and the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo. Prior to her RPF appointment, she served as ADGP (Selection/Recruitment) and headed the Police Training & Research Institute and MP Police Academy in Bhopal.

She is a recipient of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Under her leadership, the RPF aims to enhance passenger safety, tackle organized crime, and modernize its operations through technology. Ms. Mishra reaffirmed her commitment to RPF’s motto “Yasho Labhasva,” pledging to uphold vigilance, courage, and service. The Force anticipates new milestones under her visionary guidance.
