RailTel Wins CSR Times Award for Menstrual Hygiene Management Project
RailTel Corporation of India Limited (RailTel) has been conferred with the CSR Times Award as the Best PSU ( Gold category) in women empowerment category for its Menstrual Hygiene Management (“MHM”) programme. RailTel, in association with an NGO, is running the programme at 180 Government Upper Primary Schools of 8 Aspirational Districts of Uttar Pradesh.
In India, due to social taboos, low awareness, poor education & religious beliefs, menstrual hygiene is often neglected resulting in various menstrual dysfunctions, affecting the lives of millions of adolescent girls. MHM programme aims to solve the problem by educating the educators & adolescent girls and by providing them sanitary pads with facility for disposal through incinerators. About 30,000 direct and 1,00,000
indirect beneficiaries from Government schools and nearby communities hailing generally from underprivileged groups of society will be benefitted and impacted by this program. It is expected that the adolescent girls and educators covered under the programme will further educate their friends and families.
RailTel is actively supporting programmes for digital literacy, education and health for the benefit of physically challenged children as a CSR effort. RailTel is currently running three Digital Literacy Centres and one Skill Development Centre for women and RailTel- Akansha Super 30 center.
In association with Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership, New Delhi, we have established a RailTel- Akansha Super 30 center where 30 underprivileged but talented students from different corners of Uttarakhand are provided free residential coaching and mentoring for 11 months for admission in national and state engineering colleges.
