New Railway Overbridge at Jagiroad Enhances Commuter Convenience

In a significant development, a newly constructed Railway Overbridge (ROB) at Jagiroad in the Lumding Division was inaugurated for public use on December 24, 2023. This infrastructure milestone is expected to bring substantial relief to commuters in the Morigaon and Jagiroad regions.

The recently commissioned ROB serves as a replacement for Level Crossing gate no ST-27 at Jagiroad station yard, addressing the pressing issues of road traffic congestion and shunting operations related to train movement. The decision to construct the ROB (No. 85A) was driven by the necessity to alleviate the challenges posed by the busy Level Crossing gate ST-27, which recorded a Traffic Volume Unit (TVU) of 669,754.

With the completion of the Digaru-Hojai doubling works, the frequency of train movements increased, resulting in frequent closures of the gate. In response to these challenges and prioritizing the safety of both rail and road users, Northeast Frontier Railway invested Rs. 85.96 crores in the construction of this crucial infrastructure.

The ROB spans a total length of 344 meters, featuring a Bow String Arch Steel Girder extending 74 meters. The impressive structure stands at a height of 12.85 meters, with a weight of 730 MT. The new ROB includes a freshly constructed three-lane road measuring 11 meters in width, connecting NH 24 & NH 715A. Viaducts on both sides and two staircases accompanying the Bow String Girder enhance pedestrian safety, allowing them to cross the railway tracks securely.

Beyond facilitating the smooth dispersal of crowds and vehicles during peak hours, the ROB aims to prevent commuters from trespassing the railway tracks. Its implementation is expected to boost operational efficiency, ensuring seamless movement of both train and road traffic in the area. The entire population of Jagiroad and the Morigaon district stands to benefit from this infrastructure upgrade, marking a positive stride in the region’s transportation landscape.
