The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor, a transformative infrastructure project, is making significant strides with key developments and achievements across its various components.
Project Highlights:
- Civil Contracts and Launch of Girders:
- All civil contracts for Gujarat and Maharashtra have been awarded.
- A total of 112.5 km of girders have been successfully launched.
- Completion of 264 km of pier casting.
- Land Acquisition Milestone:
- Gujarat and DNH (Dadra and Nagar Haveli) achieved 100% land acquisition.
- Overall, land acquisition stands at an impressive 99.95%.
- Maharashtra is nearing completion with 99.83% land acquisition.
- Engineering Marvels and Construction Progress:
- Commencement of the laying of the first Reinforced Concrete (RC) track bed for the corridor in Surat and Anand, incorporating the J-slab ballastless track system from Japanese Shinkansen for the first time in India.
- Completion of the first mountain tunnel of 350 m length and 12.6 m diameter near Zaroli Village in Valsad, Gujarat, within a remarkable 10 months.
- Erection of the first steel bridge, spanning 70 meters and weighing 673 MT, across NH 53 in Surat, Gujarat, with 16 such bridges in various stages of fabrication.
- Completion of bridge works on six rivers out of 24 river bridges, including Par, Purna, Mindhola, Ambika, Auranga, and Venganiya.
- Installation of noise barriers on either side of the viaduct to mitigate operational noise.
- Initiation of work on India’s first 7 km undersea rail tunnel, forming part of the 21 km long tunnel between BKC and Shilphata in Maharashtra.
- Commencement of excavation works for the construction of the Mumbai HSR station.

- Special Bridges:
- 28 Crossings over National & State Highways, Irrigation Canals, and Railways (17 in Gujarat, 11 in Maharashtra) using long span Steel structures.
- Stations & Depots:
- Progress across all eight HSR stations in Gujarat, including foundation work completion, slab casting, and platform-level activities.
- Surat Depot’s foundation and superstructure works completed, while Sabarmati Depot progresses with earthwork and ongoing OHE foundation work.
Maharashtra Developments:
- Initiatives in Maharashtra include the commencement of work on the Mumbai HSR station, securing 90% completion of secant piles and significant progress in excavation and anchor fixing. Geotechnical work for the remaining alignment, including stations at Boisar, Virar, and Thane, is actively underway.
