Machine converting degradable waste into biofertilizer in 10 hrs inaugurated at DDU Gorakhpur University
The vice chancellor of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University Rajesh Singh has inaugurated machine to turn degradable waste into biofertilizer and said that to make it a sustainable venture, the varsity would launch a non-profit company to take up the work and market the biofertilizer.
When degradable waste is loaded into the machine, it chops those into small pieces and converts it into biofertilizer by inducing bacteria at higher temperature which accelerate the process.
When put in pits, it takes five to six months to convert waste into biofertilizer. Using this machine the process can be completed in 10 days.
The vice chancellor said there are plan to set up four machines in university hostels, Heerapuri Teachers Colony and one big machine with 100 kg per hour output in the main campus.
The university is going to set up five more machines in the next one month which will have enough capacity to recycle the waste generated in the university and convert it into biofertilizer, the vice chancellor said.
A task force will be set up under Dean Students Welfare Ajay Singh and nodal officer Smriti Mall to plan day-to-day functioning of these machines. The university will also approach Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation to seek help in form of resources and human resources so that in future the company can manage the whole waste of of the city, Singh said.
