Indian Railways Revises Timings for First Reservation Chart Preparation

New Delhi, July 2, 2025 — The Ministry of Railways has revised the guidelines for the preparation of the first reservation charts for trains, aiming to streamline operations and enhance passenger convenience. The updated instructions were issued by the Railway Board under Commercial Circular No. 10 of 2025.
As per the new directives:
-
For trains scheduled to depart between 5:00 AM and 2:00 PM, the first reservation chart will be prepared by 9:00 PM on the previous day.
-
For trains departing between 2:00 PM and 11:59 PM, and midnight to 5:00 AM, the first chart will be prepared preferably 8 hours prior to departure.
-
There is no change in the existing provisions for the second reservation chart, which will continue to be prepared as per current guidelines.
-
These rules will also apply to remote charting locations.
The revised instructions follow earlier guidance issued on April 15, 2025, and are intended to maximize current bookings and improve operational efficiency.
Zonal Railways and all concerned departments have been directed to implement the changes with immediate effect.
