Chennai Rail Division loads its first rake of 2835 tonnes of Gypsum for Saint Gobain Glass
Chennai division of Southern Railway has loaded its first rake for M/s Saint Gobain from Kamarajar Port (Chennai) to Bidadi, nearly 30 kms away from Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Chennai Division of Southern Railway has captured a new traffic of Gypsum by M/s Saint Gobain. First rake was loaded from Kamarajar Port to Bidadi in Karnataka on 03.10.2020. A total of 2835 tonnes of Gypsum was loaded today, generating revenue of Rs.14,05,480 for Railways. The consignment was loaded in 45 BOST wagons (an open top wagon used for transporting coal, coke etc) from Chennai to Bidadi.
The Business Development Unit of Chennai Division has geared its freight business in bringing new companies and firms to do business with Railways. It has captured the roadway transporters to Railways. Saint Gobain is a renowned company in glass industry. Initially this company transported gypsum through trucks using roadways. Due to the sustained efforts of BDU the attention of firm has now turned up to join with the national transporter in business.
Around 55,000 tonnes of gypsum has been unloaded at Kamarajar port which arrived from Omen. It is expected that the left over gypsum will be loaded in wagons to Bidadi which will bring more revenue to Railways in the next coming days.
