Widespread Dense Fog Disrupts Train Services in Northern India

As winter grips Northern India, dense fog conditions have been observed in isolated pockets, causing significant disruptions to train services. The affected regions include Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh, where very dense fog has been reported. Additionally, dense fog in some pockets has impacted regions in Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu, and West Madhya Pradesh, with isolated pockets experiencing reduced visibility in Punjab and Delhi.

The visibility recorded at 0530 hours IST today reveals the severity of the fog in various locations. In Haryana, Ambala recorded visibility as low as 25 meters, while in West Uttar Pradesh, Bareilly faced similar conditions. East Madhya Pradesh, specifically Sagar, reported visibility at 25 meters. Punjab witnessed Amritsar with 50 meters and Patiala with 200 meters of visibility. Delhi’s Palam area reported visibility at 50 meters, and in West Rajasthan, Churu and Bikaner both recorded 50 and 200 meters, respectively. The eastern part of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, and Udaipur, also experienced visibility at 50 meters. West Madhya Pradesh, with locations such as Bahraich and Gorakhpur, recorded 50 meters. Bihar, including Gaya and Purnea, faced similar conditions with visibility at 50 meters.

Due to the dense fog, several trains arriving in the Delhi area are running behind schedule as of January 5, 2024. The following trains and their respective delays have been reported:

  7. 12553 Saharsa-New Delhi Vaishali Express: Delayed by 4.30 hours.
  8. 12919 Ambedkarnagar-Katra Express: Delayed by 2.30 hours.
  9. 12557 Muzaffarpur-Anand Vihar: Delayed by 1.30 hours.
  10. 12779 VSG-Nizamudin: Delayed by 2.30 hours.
