Wardha-Ballarshah New 3rd Line Project Shows Steady Advancement
The Wardha-Ballarshah New 3rd Line project, with an estimated cost of ₹1384.72 Cr., has made remarkable progress to date, with expenditures totaling ₹811.70 Cr. The project’s overall physical advancement has reached an impressive 56%, encompassing a total length of 132.34 km.
Of this, 33.33 km (25%) has already been commissioned, comprising the Wardha-Hinganghat section. The remaining 101.49 km is actively under development, demonstrating the significant headway made in land acquisition, with 92% of the required land acquired, amounting to 125.52/136.44 hectares.

- Hinganghat-Chikni (28.65 km)

Furthermore, various aspects of the project have shown notable achievements:
- Earthwork completion stands at 58%, with 15.16/25.81 lakh cubic meters.
- Blanketing is 30% complete, reaching 60,000/1,95,000 lakh cubic meters.
- Important Bridges are 50% complete (1 out of 2), and 6 Major Bridges are in progress out of 12.
- Progress in Minor Bridges/Railway Under Bridges (RUB) is at 15% (21 out of 146).
- Station Buildings have reached 26% completion (5 out of 19).
- Track linking is at 23%, with 30 out of 132 tracks linked.
- Overhead Equipment (OHE) Foundations are 22% complete, with 620 out of 2,904.
- OHE Mast Erections have reached 14% completion, totaling 368 out of 2,640.
- OHE Wiring has covered 11% of the track (15 out of 132 km).
- Signalling Electronic Interlocking is at 16%, with 3 out of 18 completed.
- Signalling indoor and outdoor works are also at 16% completion (3 out of 18).
Upon its completion, the new 3rd line will significantly alleviate congestion on the Secunderabad-Nagpur busy route, enhancing the overall efficiency of train operations.
Additionally, the Central Railway has been making significant progress in its doubling, 3rd, and 4th line projects across its five divisions. In the current fiscal year, from April 2023 to date, Central Railway has successfully completed 147.77 km of multitracking (new lines, doubling, 3rd, and 4th lines), with planned investments of ₹3886.95 Cr., and expenditures reaching ₹2983.47 Cr. This concerted effort continues to enhance railway connectivity and infrastructure in the region.
