Union Home Minister Amit Shah Encourages NCCF’s Self-Reliance
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah addressed the Board of Directors of the National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India Limited (NCCF) in New Delhi, emphasizing the need for NCCF to become self-reliant by achieving a turnover of Rs 50,000 crore by the year 2027-28.
In his address, Amit Shah highlighted the crucial role of NCCF in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sahakar se Samriddhi’ (Prosperity through Cooperation). He lauded the initiatives taken by the Ministry of Cooperation, led by Prime Minister Modi, which has implemented 52 initiatives in the last 26 months to strengthen the cooperative movement in the country and enhance the share of cooperatives in the GDP.
Amit Shah urged NCCF to focus on expanding its membership base by including Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and other cooperative institutions across the country. This expansion will ensure a relatively higher proportion of cooperatives in NCCF’s capital structure.
Moreover, Amit Shah laid special emphasis on the procurement of maize from farmers in Gujarat, Bihar, and other states by NCCF, in collaboration with its associate companies, for ethanol production.
The Union Minister of Cooperation also discussed the possibility of creating a digital platform through the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to facilitate the coordination of maize procurement by NCCF and NAFED, should they choose to do so.
Amit Shah suggested that NCCF explore export opportunities for pulses and ensure their procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP). He emphasized aggressive extension and marketing strategies, advanced planning for purchasing from farmers, and the establishment of common collection centers.
In addition, Amit Shah proposed that NCCF collaborate with PACS for the purchase of onions and pulses, enabling the storage of these commodities under the world’s largest storage scheme within the cooperative sector.
The Union Home Minister encouraged NCCF to explore export opportunities for agricultural products and purchase rice for export through the National Cooperative Export Limited (NECL).
Chairman Vishal Singh expressed NCCF’s commitment to meeting the targets set forth by the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation. The meeting of the Board of Directors also saw the participation of Gyanesh Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, and Anice Joseph Chandra, Managing Director, NCCF.
