Tragedy Strikes as Girder Collapse on Sairang Railway Bridge Amid Bhairavi Sairang New Railway Line Project

Mizoram, Sairang – A heart-wrenching incident unfolded as a girder fell from the under-construction Sairang Railway Bridge, a pivotal element of the Bhairavi Sairang New Railway Line project. This calamitous event resulted in a grievous toll on human lives, with numerous laborers sustaining injuries and facing dire consequences. The Ministry of Railways has promptly initiated an investigation into the tragic collapse, aiming to unearth the reasons behind this harrowing incident.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) expressed deep sorrow and sympathy in response to the catastrophe, releasing a statement that read, “Pained by the bridge mishap in Mizoram. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. Rescue operations are underway, and all possible assistance is being given to those affected.”

In an endeavor to provide support to the affected families, the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) has declared an ex-gratia compensation of Rs. 2 lakh for the kin of each deceased victim. Additionally, a sum of Rs. 50,000 will be extended to individuals who have sustained injuries in the tragic incident.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw issued a statement expressing his profound grief over the unfortunate occurrence in Mizoram. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with state administration and railway officials, swiftly mobilized to the accident site, engaging in a rescue operation of paramount importance.

The compensation plan unveiled by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw includes a substantial sum of Rs. 10 lakh for the families of the deceased. In cases of severe injuries, an amount of Rs. 2 lakh will be provided, while minor injuries will be compensated with Rs. 50,000.

As the nation grapples with this tragedy, the incident underscores the urgency of meticulous safety measures in construction projects, and it is anticipated that this unfortunate occurrence will lead to a reevaluation of safety protocols across such endeavors. Rescue operations continue in full swing, with hopes of finding survivors beneath the wreckage.
