Successful Electric Train Trial Marks Milestone on Banihal-Khari Rail Section: CCRS Inspection Ensues
In a significant development, a successful trial run of the first electric engine train with six coaches was carried out on the Banihal-Khari Rail section in Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Commissioner Railway Safety (CCRS) Northern Railways, Dinesh Chand Deshwal, conducted a thorough inspection of the Katra-Banihal section of the Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project on December 7, 2023.
During the inspection, Deshwal, accompanied by senior officers of Northern Railway, scrutinized the newly constructed Banihal-Khari and Khari-Sumber tracks using a trolley. The team also assessed the electrification works in tunnels and bridges. Official sources revealed that the CCRS issued necessary directives to IRCON International Limited to expedite the remaining work at Banihal-Khari and Sumber Stations.
Following the inspection, Deshwal and other railway officers returned to Banihal on a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) from Khari Railway Station. Earlier in the week, engineers from IRCON International Limited, engaged by Northern Railway for the USBRL Project, reported the completion of the 25 KV Railway Electrification (ROCS) work between Banihal and Khari Stations on the Banihal-Katra section in Ramban district.”
