Special Initiative by East Central Railway for Litchi Transportation
The exquisite sweetness of Bihar’s renowned litchi is now reaching major cities across the country, including Delhi and Mumbai, thanks to a special initiative by the East Central Railway.
Railways play a crucial role in transporting farmer produce affordably and efficiently, thereby boosting their income. In line with this, the East Central Railway has taken special measures to ensure the timely transportation of litchi from various stations like Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, and Patna/Patliputra to Delhi, Mumbai, and other major cities.
Loading of litchi commenced on May 15, 2024, and by May 26, 2024, approximately 2318 quintals of litchi have been dispatched from stations in Sonpur, Samastipur, and Danapur divisions to cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru. This initiative has garnered revenue of approximately 8.46 lakh rupees for the railway.
At Samastipur station, 3.9 tons of SRL (Special Refrigerated Luggage) were made available on the 11062 Jaynagar-Lokmanya Tilak Terminal Pawan Express. Similarly, starting from May 20, 2024, VIPs have facilitated the daily loading of 24 tons of litchi in Pawan Express from Muzaffarpur station. This initiative enables litchi producers to efficiently transport their produce to Mumbai at a lower cost and faster pace, ensuring traders receive fair value for their products.
To ensure a smooth loading process for traders, railway personnel are available round the clock. Traders can contact 9771429999 for loading at Sonpur division stations, 9771428963 for loading at Samastipur division stations, and 7759070004 for loading at Danapur division stations to avail assistance.
