South Peninsular India Braces for Heavy Rainfall on October 29th and 30th

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert predicting a fresh spell of heavy rainfall over South Peninsular India on October 29th and 30th. The forecast indicates:

  • Heavy Rainfall: The IMD’s latest update highlights that South Peninsular India is likely to experience a spell of heavy rainfall on the 29th and 30th of October.

Meanwhile, for the rest of the country, the weather forecast remains relatively stable over the next five days with no significant weather events expected.

Rainfall Distribution Over the Past 24 Hours:

In the past 24 hours, until 0830 hours IST on October 26, 2023, the following rainfall distribution was recorded:

  • Light to Moderate Rainfall: Many areas in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
  • A Few Places: Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep Area.
  • Isolated Places: Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Tamil Nadu.

Significant Weather Features:

  • A cyclonic circulation is observed over the Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu coast, while another cyclonic circulation exists over South Tamil Nadu in lower tropospheric levels.

South India Weather Forecast:

  • Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, is anticipated in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe over the next five days.
  • On October 29th and 30th, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka are expected to experience these weather conditions.
  • Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe on October 29th and 30th.

The rest of the country is not expected to experience any significant weather events during this period.
