SJVN’s 50 MW Solar Project in Assam to Boost State’s Renewable Energy Capacity

In a significant step towards enhancing Assam’s renewable energy infrastructure, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a subsidiary of SJVN, is set to establish a 50 MW Solar Project in Sonitpur district. The project, located in Sitalmari village within Barsola Block, is estimated to cost Rs. 291 crores.

The Bhumi Pujan ceremony for the solar project was conducted today by Assam’s Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, alongside key dignitaries including Shri Ashok Singhal, Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of Assam, and Shri Pallab Lochan Das, MP of Tezpur. The project’s initiation marks SJVN’s commitment to bolstering Assam’s renewable energy sector.

Once operational, the 50 MW Solar Project is projected to generate 101 million units of green energy annually. Over a span of 25 years, it is expected to produce approximately 2,319 million units of renewable energy, contributing significantly to Assam’s power needs.

The electricity generated by the project will be supplied to the Assam Power Development Corporation Limited at a rate of Rs. 3.92 per unit, aiding in meeting the state’s growing energy demands.

Furthermore, SJVN’s presence in Assam extends beyond this project, with plans for additional solar ventures totaling 320 MW in capacity. The company’s commitment to renewable energy aligns with the government’s vision of achieving 50% of India’s power capacity from non-fossil-fuel-based sources by 2030.

SJVN Limited, a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has been instrumental in commissioning various energy projects across the nation, including hydro, thermal, wind, and solar. With ambitious targets for future growth, SJVN aims to continue contributing to India’s renewable energy transition and sustainable development goals.
