Severe Heat Wave Hits Rajasthan, Red Alert Issued
Rajasthan braces itself for an intense heat wave in the coming days as temperatures soar to unprecedented levels across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, warning residents of severe heat wave conditions and warm nights.
Current Temperature Conditions: Numerous areas across Rajasthan are experiencing severe heat wave conditions, with temperatures soaring above 50.5 degrees Celsius, surpassing the normal by 7.5 degrees. Additionally, warm nights have been observed in various parts of the state, with Kota recording a minimum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius, 4.6 degrees above normal.
Maximum Temperature Departure from Normal: Several regions, including Jaipur and Bikaner, are experiencing markedly above-normal temperatures, with departures ranging from +5.0°C to +7.5°C.
Maximum Temperature Forecast: Over the next 48 hours, most parts of Rajasthan are expected to witness a further increase in maximum temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. Relief from the blistering heat wave is anticipated from May 31 onwards, following the onset of a new cyclonic disturbance.
Impact of Heat Wave and Suggested Actions: The soaring temperatures pose health risks, particularly to the elderly, children, and individuals with pre-existing medical conditions. Heat stress on crops and livestock is also likely. Authorities urge the public to stay hydrated, seek shade, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
