IMD’s Latest Update (05-12-2023, 0430 HRS IST): The severe cyclonic storm “Michaung” continues to impact the west-central Bay of Bengal off the south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts. As of 0430 HRS IST on December 5, 2023, the storm has moved north-northwestwards at a speed of 09 kmph during the past six hours. The center of the cyclonic storm is now positioned at latitude 14.75°N and longitude 80.2°E, approximately 30 km northeast of Nellore, 130 km south-southwest of Bapatla, 190 km north of Chennai, and 190 km south-southwest of Machilipatnam.

Current Intensity and Forecast: The current intensity near the center is reported to be 90-100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph. The forecast suggests that as the system continues to move nearly northwards close to the coast, some parts of the wall cloud region lie over land. The system is anticipated to move nearly northwards, parallel and close to the south Andhra Pradesh coast, with the likelihood of crossing the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam, close to Bapatla during the forenoon of December 5, 2023, as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph.
