Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Biparjoy’ Approaches Arabian Sea, Intensification Expected: IMD
The severe cyclonic storm named ‘Biparjoy,’ pronounced as ‘Biporjoy,’ has formed over the east-central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea. It has been observed moving in a north-northeastward direction at a speed of 5 kmph over the past six hours.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), ‘Biparjoy’ is expected to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm within the next 12 hours. The storm is projected to continue moving northward over the next 24 hours, followed by a north-northwestward direction in the subsequent three days.
The IMD has provided a forecast track and intensity for ‘Biparjoy,’ indicating its projected positions and maximum sustained surface wind speeds. The storm is expected to strengthen, reaching wind speeds of 105-115 kmph, gusting to 125 kmph, by 07th June at 0830 hours IST. It is likely to further intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm, with wind speeds ranging from 130-140 kmph, gusting to 155 kmph, by 08th June at 0530 hours IST.
The IMD has issued warnings regarding the wind speeds and sea conditions associated with the cyclonic storm. Gale wind speeds of 105-115 kmph, gusting to 125 kmph, are currently prevailing over the east-central Arabian Sea and adjacent areas. These speeds are expected to increase to 125-135 kmph, gusting to 155 kmph, overnight on 7th June.
Fishermen have been advised to suspend all fishing operations in the specified areas until 12th June. They are also cautioned against venturing into the central Arabian Sea, adjoining areas of the north Arabian Sea, and the south Arabian Sea, as per the designated dates.
