Revolutionary AI-Powered Agricultural News Monitoring Solution, Krishi 24/7, Launched for Timely Decision-Making
In a groundbreaking development, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW), in collaboration with the Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Wadhwani AI), has introduced Krishi 24/7, a state-of-the-art AI-powered solution designed for automated agricultural news monitoring and analysis. With generous support from Google.org, Krishi 24/7 aims to significantly enhance the efficiency of identifying and managing agricultural news articles critical for prompt decision-making, ultimately safeguarding farmers’ interests and advancing sustainable agricultural growth.
Krishi 24/7 is set to bridge a vital gap by addressing the need for a highly efficient mechanism to identify and process agricultural news articles promptly. The cutting-edge tool possesses multilingual capabilities, scanning news articles in various languages and seamlessly translating them into English. Its sophisticated algorithms extract vital information from these articles, including headlines, crop specifics, event categorization, publication dates, geographical locations, event severity, concise summaries, and source links. This comprehensive data ensures that the ministry remains continually updated with the most pertinent information published on the web.
Secretary (A&FW) Manoj Ahuja, during the launch of this innovative news monitoring system, emphasized its potential to keep stakeholders informed while also empowering them to shape the narrative. He expressed the need for ongoing improvements, suggesting that the system should remain adaptable to evolving needs and technologies. The goal is to ensure that this news monitoring system becomes a dynamic, robust force that can effectively adapt to the ever-changing information landscape, thus serving the mission to support and uplift farmers more effectively.
Samuel Praveen Kumar, Joint Secretary (Extension), provided insights into the functions of this groundbreaking solution. Krishi 24/7 is designed to offer near real-time monitoring of news articles within the agricultural ecosystem published online. This monitoring system will enable the DA&FW to promptly identify news of interest, establish a comprehensive mechanism for event shortlisting, create alerts, and take timely action.
JP Tripathi, Associate Director (Ag) at Wadhwani AI, highlighted the institute’s commitment to building AI solutions that address long-standing challenges, especially in areas where news monitoring and validation have traditionally been manual and time-consuming. Drawing parallels to a successful solution for disease outbreak tracking and analysis deployed by the institute in collaboration with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), he expressed dedication to providing central government bodies like the DA&FW with tools that bolster information flow through data-driven decision-making. This initiative signifies a remarkable step forward in equipping stakeholders with tools that adapt to the ever-evolving information landscape and promote informed decision-making in the agricultural sector.
