Railway Porter Charged INR 10,000 for Wheelchair Service to NRI Passenger; License Revoked

A shocking incident has come to light at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, where a licensed railway porter charged an NRI passenger a whopping INR 10,000 for providing wheelchair assistance to reach the platform. Upon receiving the complaint, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Delhi division took immediate action, launching a thorough investigation into the matter.

In response, the DRM revoked the license of the offending porter and imposed strict administrative and legal measures. Furthermore, the railway authorities intervened in the case and successfully ensured that 90% of the amount was refunded to the affected passenger.

The railway administration has reiterated its commitment to prioritizing passenger welfare and has emphasized its zero-tolerance policy toward such incidents. The DRM expressed deep regret over the incident, stating that it tarnishes the image of the railway service and undermines passenger trust. He assured that strict action would be taken against individuals involved in similar misconduct in the future.

The railway authorities have urged all passengers to report any such issues promptly by contacting the railway helpline number 139 for immediate assistance.

The swift action taken in this case underscores the railway’s firm stance on protecting the interests of its passengers and maintaining a safe and dignified travel environment.
