Railway Board Member Inspects Banaras Locomotive Works, Reviews Production Activities
On March 23, 2024, Satish Kumar, Member Traction and Rolling Stock, Railway Board, visited Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) for inspection. Accompanied by Mohit Chandra, Chief Executive Director of Electrical Engineering, Rolling Stock, Kumar was greeted by BLW’s General Manager Basudev Panda upon arrival. The inspection encompassed various areas of BLW including the Loco Frame Shop, Loco Assembly Shop, Loco Test Shop, New Loco Project Site, and New Block Shop.
During the visit, Kumar received detailed insights into BLW’s production activities, ongoing projects, and manufacturing facilities. Discussions revolved around technical aspects, production processes, and future plans. General Manager Basudev Panda and other principal heads and officers were present throughout the inspection.
Following the workshop visit, a progress review meeting was held where Kumar discussed technical aspects related to locomotive manufacturing with BLW’s management team. Principal Chief Electrical Engineer S.K. Srivastava presented BLW’s achievements through a comprehensive presentation. Kumar expressed satisfaction with BLW’s progress and emphasized the need for continuous improvement, particularly in quality and environmental optimization through initiatives like rainwater harvesting.
In the afternoon, a detailed meeting focused on production activities for diesel and electric locomotives was conducted. Kumar addressed challenges faced in locomotive production and provided necessary guidelines for solutions. He stressed the importance of Total Quality Management (TQM) and systematic work processes to ensure excellence in locomotive production.
In conclusion, General Manager Basudev Panda reiterated BLW’s commitment to achieving targets set by the Railway Board while striving for continuous improvement. The meeting was chaired by Chief Design Engineer Anil Kumar Jain.
