Principal Secretary to PM Assures Safe Rescue of Trapped Workers at Silkyara Tunnel Site

Principal Secretary Dr. P. K. Mishra Visits Uttarkashi, Interacts with Workers

In a crucial development, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr. P. K. Mishra, visited the Silkyara rescue operation site today in Uttarkashi. His visit focused on assessing the ongoing rescue efforts at the tunnel where workers have been trapped.

Inspection of Drilling Sites and Rescue Operations

Dr. Mishra inspected the horizontal drilling site, which is navigating through debris inside the tunnel, as well as vertical drilling sites managed by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL). Additionally, he took stock of the 170-meter perpendicular tunnel work being undertaken by RVNL.

Reassurance to Trapped Workers

During his visit, Dr. Mishra interacted directly with the workers trapped inside the tunnel through communication lines, offering them assurance and confidence in the ongoing rescue operations. He also engaged with the family members of the trapped individuals, reassuring them of the commitment to a safe rescue.

Emphasis on Safety and Timely Rescue

The Principal Secretary underscored the importance of safety for both the personnel involved in the rescue and the machinery being utilized. He urged agencies to expedite the rescue operation, emphasizing the critical factor of time in ensuring the safe retrieval of the trapped individuals.

Welfare Measures for Trapped Persons

Dr. Mishra directed agencies to ensure the well-being of those inside the tunnel, including timely provision of food items and other daily necessities. He called for continuous health monitoring, health advisories, and periodic counseling sessions to support the mental well-being of the trapped individuals.

Government Commitment to Support Rescue Operations

Dr. Mishra assured that the Government of India stands ready to provide all necessary support from various agencies and organizations across the country for the successful execution of the rescue operation.

Officials from NHIDCL, RVNL, SJVNL, ONGC, THDC, CIMFR, BRO, GSI, international experts, and private agencies provided detailed briefings to the Principal Secretary about the ongoing rescue works.

Acknowledging the dedication and hard work of ground staff, including machine operators, welders, rat miners, police, SDRF, NDRF, BRO, Army, ITBP, and district administration, Dr. Mishra expressed appreciation for their relentless efforts in the challenging rescue operation.
