Prime Minister Modi to Inaugurate Delhi’s Rapid Rail System on October 20
Rapid Rail Service to Slash Commute Time on Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor
In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) on October 20, 2023. The inauguration marks a major milestone in the advancement of public transportation in the National Capital Region (NCR).
The newly completed section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, stretching approximately 17 kilometers between Sahibabad and Duhai, is prepared for its inaugural run. The regular passenger service of this segment will be open to the general public from October 21, 2023.
This corridor comprises five key stations, including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. The RRTS system is set to revolutionize commuting in the region, offering rapid transit that will cover the entire stretch in just 12 minutes. Previously, the journey along this route took commuters between 30 to 35 minutes via road. Now, with the introduction of the RAPIDX train service, this travel time will be reduced to half or even less.
The RAPIDX train fleet consists of 6 coaches, including 5 standard coaches and one premium coach. Currently, 10 train sets are available for service, with maintenance carried out at the Duhai Depot. The fare for traveling on the RAPIDX train from Sahibabad to Duhai is expected to be approximately ₹50, making it an affordable and efficient transportation option for commuters.
The RAPIDX trains are equipped with a wide range of modern amenities, providing a comfortable and convenient commuting experience. These trains can achieve a maximum operating speed of 160 kilometers per hour, ensuring a fast, safe, and efficient regional transit service for passengers.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is not only expected to improve connectivity but also generate employment opportunities, boost businesses, and enhance educational access. This sustainable public transport system aims to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce air pollution, contributing to the overall development and balance in the NCR.
