Prime Minister Modi Honors Indian Athletes for Remarkable Success at Asian Para Games

New Delhi, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed and interacted with the contingent of Indian athletes who participated in the Asian Para Games at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. The event aimed to congratulate the athletes on their remarkable achievements at the games and inspire them for future competitions.

During his address, the Prime Minister expressed his enthusiasm for meeting the para-athletes and emphasized the hope and enthusiasm they bring with them. He commended the para-athletes on their successes, highlighting that their achievements were closely followed and celebrated by the entire nation. He noted that there is no concept of “losing” in sports, only “winning” or “learning,” underscoring the importance of the learning process in sports.

Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the fierce competition among athletes and their unwavering dedication. He praised the athletes who participated, stating that they all returned either as winners or with valuable lessons. He stressed that their success inspires the nation and fills citizens with pride. The athletes’ record-breaking success at the Asian Para Games, with a total medal count of 111, was celebrated as a significant achievement, symbolizing the dreams of 140 crore (1.4 billion) Indians.

The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s recent achievements in sports, such as the Gold Medal at the World Athletics Championship, Badminton Men’s Team’s first gold medal at the Asian Games, and the highest medal tally at the Asian Para Games. He noted that para-athletes’ victories go beyond the realm of sports and serve as an inspiration for life.

Recognizing the government’s evolving approach to sports, Prime Minister Modi stated that India is moving from the old paradigm of “athletes for the government” to “government for the athletes.” He credited the present government for its athlete-centric approach and commitment to removing obstacles and creating opportunities for athletes. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of providing platforms for athletes to realize their potential, highlighting initiatives such as the Khelo India Scheme and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).

Prime Minister Modi applauded the resilience of para-athletes, emphasizing that their ability to overcome obstacles serves as a significant contribution to the nation. He noted that society draws inspiration from para-athletes and that their participation in tournaments represents the victory of human dreams. The Prime Minister assured the athletes that the government and the nation stand with them.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Union Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur, President of the Paralympics Committee of India Deepa Malik, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda, and Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports Nisith Pramanik.
