PM Narendra Modi Celebrates Landmark Passage of Women’s Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha
New Delhi, September 19, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to express his delight at the resounding success of ‘The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023,’ also known as the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ or Women’s Reservation Bill, in the Lok Sabha. The bill received overwhelming support, with 454 Members of Parliament (MPs) voting in favor and only 2 against it.
In his social media statement, Prime Minister Modi extended his gratitude to MPs from across party lines who cast their votes in support of this groundbreaking legislation. He highlighted the significance of the bill, noting that it represents a historic step towards empowering women and facilitating greater participation in the nation’s political processes.
The ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ is poised to make a lasting impact on women’s empowerment and promote gender-inclusive development throughout India. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that this achievement reinforces the unwavering commitment of the Modi government to governance led by women.
The bill, which proposes 33 percent representation for women in both the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, has been introduced and is set for extensive debate. However, it will only come into effect after the completion of a delimitation exercise, making it unlikely to be enforced during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
Prime Minister Modi’s words echoed the sentiments of many who celebrated the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill as a historic and transformative moment for women’s representation in Indian politics.
