Operation “Punctuality” Launched by East Central Railways to Curb Unauthorized Chain Pulling and Ensure Smooth Commutes
Hajipur, August 9, 2023: In a bid to curtail the unauthorized act of chain pulling that often disrupts train services, East Central Railways has initiated Operation “Punctuality.” The operation entails stringent actions against individuals found guilty of chain pulling without valid reasons. Under this campaign, East Central Railways’ security forces are vigilantly monitoring such instances to prevent unnecessary delays in train schedules.
During the week of August 1 to August 7, 2023, the Railway Security team detained 188 individuals across various railway zones of East Central Railways for engaging in chain pulling without valid cause. These individuals are being held under Section 141 of the Railway Act, and appropriate actions are being taken against them.
Within the span of seven days of Operation “Punctuality,” the highest number of offenders, 75, were apprehended in the Danapur Mandal. In addition, 42 individuals were detained in Samastipur Mandal, 38 in Sonpur Mandal, 20 in Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Mandal, and 13 in Dhanbad Mandal.
Unauthorized chain pulling, technically known as “Emergency Brake Application” (EBA), inconveniences passengers by abruptly halting trains without proper justification. Long-distance travelers especially face hardships due to such acts, resulting in avoidable delays and frustration. With passengers’ convenience in mind, East Central Railways is committed to sustaining Operation “Punctuality” in the future as well.
