Northern Railway Takes Measures to Ensure Passenger Comfort and Crowd Control During Summer Rush-2023
In preparation for the anticipated summer rush in 2023, the Northern Railway has initiated various steps to guarantee passenger comfort and effective crowd management. Principal Chief Commercial Manager, Sanjay Jain, led a surprise inspection of New Delhi station on June 18, 2023, accompanied by senior officers from the Delhi Division. During the visit, Jain assessed the arrangements in place and interacted with passengers to gauge their experience.
Among the observations made during the inspection, the General Class Coaches of train no. 11842 Gita Jayanti Express, located at Platform 4, were scrutinized. Adequate water supply in the toilets was verified, and the coach was promptly cleaned under Jain’s supervision. He commended the summer rush plan developed by the Delhi Division and reviewed the arrangements at various stations to ensure a smooth travel experience during the summer rush.
To enhance passenger services, the Northern Railway has appointed Special Duty Officers (SDOs) at key stations including New Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Delhi Sarai Rohilla. These officers will oversee and coordinate operations during peak rush periods. Additionally, extra booking and reservation counters have been opened to minimize waiting times. Regular announcements are made, providing accurate departure and arrival information, while a robust Train Enquiry system and announcement system are in place.
Efficient crowd management is a top priority for the Northern Railway. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are employing mega mikes to control crowds effectively. Train information boards are operational and display up-to-date information. To further assist passengers, additional staff from commercial, RPF, Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF), and Government Railway Police (GRP) have been deployed for crowd control and passenger assistance. Escalators are manned, ensuring smooth transit within the stations.
Continuous monitoring is conducted through a dedicated WhatsApp group to address any issues promptly. To streamline operations, eastbound trains are primarily scheduled to depart from Platform 16 at New Delhi Railway Station and Platform 1 at Anand Vihar Terminal. Furthermore, special arrangements have been made at New Delhi railway station to provide safe drinking water facilities to all passengers.
Speaking on these initiatives, Shobhan Choudhury, General Manager of Northern Railway, emphasized the railway’s commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and seamless services to its esteemed customers.
By implementing these measures, the Northern Railway aims to ensure a hassle-free travel experience during the anticipated summer rush of 2023. Passengers can expect improved crowd management, enhanced amenities, and a focus on their safety and convenience.
