Mumbai’s Kalyan Division Embarks on Ambitious Infrastructure Overhaul

In a monumental step forward, the Kalyan of Mumbai has initiated a transformative project as part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) 3A. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹812.97 crores, focuses on the segregation of long-distance and suburban traffic while unifying the Goods Yard.

Key Project Components:

  • Passenger Platforms: Construction of six new platforms, each stretching an impressive 620 meters in length.
  • Deck Slab: Extensive coverage of deck slabs across the entire platform area for enhanced functionality.
  • Goods Yard Operations: Implementation of reception and dispatch lines for efficient goods operations, catering to Kasara and Karjat directions. The simultaneous facility is available on both sides.
  • Shunting Neck: Full-length shunting necks established at Igatpuri and CSMT ends for improved operational capabilities.
  • Mechanical Examination Facilities: Installation of examination facilities on two lines to ensure mechanical efficiency.
  • Goods Shed Enhancement: Strategic improvement of the Goods shed, including modifications to enhance overall connectivity.
  • Circulating Area: Development of a well-designed circulating area to seamlessly connect passengers and the Goods Yard.
  • Road Over Bridge (ROB): Construction of a parallel ROB to Patri Pull ROB, with a landing towards the proposed station building and circulating area.
  • Foot Over Bridges (FOB): Provision of three new FOBs connecting existing platforms to proposed platforms and beyond, alongside service buildings.

Work in Progress:

  • Relocation: Finalization of the relocation process for affected service buildings and quarters.
  • Tender Awards: Successful tender awards for earthwork and minor bridges.
  • Dismantling Process: Ongoing dismantling process of 15 old goods lines, with 70% completion.
  • Track Work: Processing of tenders for track work to ensure a robust rail infrastructure.
  • Infrastructure Development: Progress in drains, boundary wall construction, and overall earthwork.

Project Objective: The comprehensive project aims at the efficient segregation of long-distance and suburban local trains, envisioning a significant improvement in overall mobility within the region. The ongoing developments underscore the commitment to advancing Mumbai’s rail infrastructure for the benefit of its residents.
