Major Progress Made in the Manmad-Jalgaon New 3rd Line Project
In a significant development, the Manmad-Jalgaon New 3rd Line project is advancing at a rapid pace, bringing relief to the congested Mumbai-Howrah route and enhancing the efficiency of train operations. The ambitious project, with a total cost of ₹1035.16 crore, has already seen an expenditure of ₹964.25 crore to date.
With an overall physical progress of 75%, this project covers a substantial length of 159.81 kilometers. Among the completed sections are Jalgaon-Pachora and Nandgaon-Manmad, totaling 72.68 kilometers. Additionally, near-completion sections, such as Chalisgaon-Pimperkhed (31.79 kilometers), are expected to be finished within the year.
The project’s progress is categorized as follows:

- In Progress Sections : 55.35 kilometers
The land acquisition phase is also making substantial headway, with 57.14% of the required land (9.40/16.45 hectares) already acquired.
A variety of works have been accomplished, contributing to the advancement of the project. These works include earthwork (57%), blanketing (13%), important bridges (40% in progress), major bridges (52%), minor bridges/RUB (48%), station buildings (47%), track linking (43%), ballast supply (57%), overhead equipment (OHE) foundations (24%), OHE mast erections (21%), and OHE wiring track kilometers (11%).
The completion of this new 3rd line is expected to alleviate congestion on the Mumbai-Howrah route, ultimately enhancing train mobility. As part of Central Railway’s extensive efforts to upgrade rail infrastructure, this project is a substantial component of the plan.
Central Railway has made remarkable progress in the doubling/3rd/4th line projects across its five divisions. Notably, 147.77 kilometers of multitracking, including new lines, doubling, and 3rd/4th lines, have been completed in the current fiscal year since April 2023. With a planned budget of ₹3886.95 crore for new lines and doubling projects this year, ₹2983.47 crore has already been spent, reflecting Central Railway’s commitment to enhancing rail connectivity and efficiency.
