In a significant development for India’s transportation infrastructure, the Ministry of Railways has announced the completion of key segments in two Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) projects.
The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), spanning 1337 kilometers from Ludhiana to Sonnagar, has been fully constructed. Meanwhile, substantial progress has been made on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), with 1220 kilometers out of 1506 kilometers already completed. Train operations are already underway on the completed sections of the WDFC.
These dedicated freight corridors are expected to revolutionize logistics in the country, offering benefits such as reduced costs, increased capacity for higher axle load trains, and expedited access to Northern hinterlands via Western Ports. Moreover, they are anticipated to catalyze the development of new industrial hubs and Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals.
To ensure the timely completion of these corridors, the government has proactively allocated funds and closely monitored land acquisition activities in coordination with state governments. This strategic approach underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering transportation infrastructure.
