Key Appointments in Railway Board – Aruna Nayar Assumes Role as Secretary, Railway Board; Satish Kumar Takes Charge as Member (Traction & Rolling Stock)

In a significant development, Aruna Nayar, an officer of the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) from the 1987 batch and Level-16 empanelled Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) officer, has assumed the role of Secretary, Railway Board. Ms. Nayar officially took charge on January 6, 2024, making her the first IRPS officer to be empanelled in IRMS at Level-16.

Aruna Nayar brings with her extensive experience, having served in various capacities within the Railways. She previously held the position of Additional Member, Staff on the Railway Board since May 2023 and served as Principal Executive Director/Staff on the Railway Board from February 2022 to May 2023. Ms. Nayar has held key roles such as Principal Chief Personnel Officer in Eastern Railway, Deputy Chief Personnel Officer in Metro Railway/Kolkata, and Principal Chief Personnel Officer in Southern Railway. Additionally, she has contributed in various capacities at Railway Recruitment Board (Chennai), Railway Divisions of Chennai & Palghat, and Golden Rock Workshop & Division at Tiruchirapalli. Her expertise also extends to the Ministry of Communications & IT, where she served as Director (Pers) in the Department of Information Technology from 2005 to 2009.

Satish Kumar, a seasoned professional from the 1986 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers, assumed the position of Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) in the Railway Board of the Ministry of Railways on January 5, 2024. With a remarkable 34-year career, Shri Kumar has held various roles, including General Manager at North Central Railway, Prayagraj. His experience includes working in Jhansi Division, BLW (Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi), NER, Gorkahpur, and Patiala Locomotive Works. Trained in Total Quality Management under the UNDP program in 1996, Kumar has successfully managed numerous projects throughout his career. Notably, he served as Divisional Railway Manager, Lucknow Division of Northern Railway from April 2017 to April 2019, overseeing the completion of numerous infrastructural projects during his tenure.
