Kanda Express Brings Bulk Onion Shipment to Delhi, Ensuring Steady Supply
In a significant move to ensure a steady supply of onions in the national capital, a consignment of onions arrived today at Delhi’s Kishanganj station via the Kanda Express, a special train service from Nashik. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to transport onions in large quantities by rail, providing a reliable and cost-effective supply to various regions.
The transportation of onions through rail not only stabilizes prices for consumers but also supports onion farmers in the Nashik region by offering them additional revenue through bulk transport. This strategic shift to rail transportation helps reduce the impact of price fluctuations and provides cooperatives with a more economical option compared to road transport.
The Indian Railways has also launched the “Shatkari Samruddhi” initiative, which enables the direct dispatch of perishable goods from farmers to markets, ensuring faster delivery and reducing spoilage.
The large-scale rail transport of onions is expected to improve availability in Delhi, leading to a more consistent supply and stable retail prices in the markets. Meanwhile, another train loaded with onions is currently being prepared for dispatch from Nashik.
