Established on February 8, 1862, Jamalpur Locomotive Workshop holds a venerable position as the first fully-fledged railway workshop in India, boasting a rich history of over a century of service. Today, it stands as the largest and oldest locomotive repair workshop in the country, known for its diverse manufacturing activities within the Indian Railways.
Initially, Jamalpur Workshop primarily focused on locomotive repair and the assembly of locomotives using salvaged components from other locomotives.
