IRCTC Launches Heritage Train Tour on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit Starting June 9, 2025

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has announced an exclusive heritage tour, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit, aboard the Bharat Gaurav AC Tourist Train. This special journey, spanning six days and five nights, will commence on June 9, 2025, from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai, offering travelers a deep dive into the historic sites linked to the legendary Maratha ruler.

The tour covers a host of iconic locations such as Raigad Fort, Pune’s Lal Mahal, Kasba Ganapati, and Shivsrushti, Shivneri Fort, Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, Pratapgarh Fort, and Kolhapur’s Mahalakshmi Temple and Panhala Fort. The itinerary has been carefully curated to showcase the key milestones in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life and the Maratha Empire’s formation.

The fully air-conditioned Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train includes Sleeper Class, AC 3-Tier, and AC 2-Tier coaches, with a total capacity of 748 passengers. Tourists may also board the train from Dadar and Thane stations.

Tour Highlights:

  • Day 1: Departure from CSMT to Mangaon (for Raigad Fort). Tourists will visit the fort, the coronation site of Shivaji Maharaj, before proceeding to Pune for an overnight stay.

  • Day 2: Visits to Lal Mahal, rebuilt in 1984 and housing paintings of Shivaji’s life; Kasba Ganapati, the city’s presiding deity; and Shivsrushti, a historical theme park showcasing Shivaji’s life through 3D and interactive exhibits.

  • Day 3: Journey to Shivneri Fort, Shivaji’s birthplace, followed by a visit to Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas.

  • Day 4: Travel to Satara to explore Pratapgarh Fort, site of the pivotal 1659 battle between Shivaji and Afzal Khan. Later, proceed to Kolhapur.

  • Day 5: Tour of Mahalakshmi Temple (Ambabai) and Panhala Fort, known for its strategic layout and historical significance. Return journey begins in the evening.

  • Day 6: Arrival in Mumbai early morning.
