India’s Epic Mahabharat Returns to National Television with an AI-Led Reimagination

In a landmark collaboration, Prasar Bharati and Collective Media Network have announced an ambitious AI-driven reimagining of India’s timeless epic, Mahabharat, designed for today’s generation. The series will have its exclusive digital premiere on WAVES OTT on October 25, 2025, followed by telecast on Doordarshan every Sunday at 11 AM starting November 2, 2025.
This first-of-its-kind partnership combines the legacy and nationwide reach of India’s public broadcaster with the creative innovation of a next-generation media house. Powered by advanced AI tools, the reimagined Mahabharat recreates the vast universe of the epic — its characters, battlefields, and moral conflicts — with cinematic realism and emotional depth. The project symbolizes the fusion of heritage and technology, embodying the spirit of Make in India and Digital India.

Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO of Prasar Bharati, said, “Prasar Bharati has always brought stories of cultural and national significance into Indian homes. The re-telecast of the original Mahabharat during the lockdown reminded us how these narratives unite families across generations. This AI-led reimagining honors tradition while embracing innovation — an expression of Vikas and Virasat in modern broadcasting.”
Vijay Subramaniam, Founder and Group CEO of Collective Artists Network, added, “Like millions, I grew up watching the classic Mahabharat every Sunday. Our vision is to give today’s audience a similar unifying experience, retold through the power of technology. This is bhakti and pragati walking together — deeply rooted in tradition, yet boldly forward-looking.”

The series will stream on WAVES, Prasar Bharati’s official OTT platform, which unites India’s diverse culture, news, and entertainment offerings. With millions of users and a focus on inclusivity, innovation, and heritage, WAVES continues to bridge India’s timeless legacy with modern digital storytelling — and its partnership with Collective Media’s AI Mahabharat is set to redefine how epic narratives are experienced in the digital age.
