Indian Railways Sets Up Dedicated Helpline for Victims and Families Affected by Odisha Train Tragedy

New Delhi – In response to the tragic train accident in Odisha, Indian Railways has taken special measures to assist the family, friends, and relatives of the deceased persons, as well as the stranded passengers. The helpline number 139 has been designated for this purpose, with a dedicated team of senior officials working round the clock to attend to calls and provide the necessary information. The officials will coordinate with the respective Zonal Railways and the State Government to ensure accurate and prompt assistance.

The helpline service aims to extend a helping hand to those in distress, offering correct and satisfactory information to the affected passengers and their families during this challenging period. The railway authorities are committed to providing the utmost support to those impacted by the tragic incident.

Additionally, the helpline will also facilitate the prompt disbursal of the enhanced ex-gratia amount announced by the Minister of Railways. In the case of death, an ex-gratia amount of Rs. 10 lakh will be provided, while grievous injuries will receive Rs. 2 lakh, and minor injuries will receive Rs. 50,000.

As of now, Indian Railways has disbursed a total of Rs. 3.22 crores as ex-gratia in 285 cases, which include 11 death cases, 50 cases of grievous injuries, and 224 cases of minor injuries. The ex-gratia amount is being distributed at seven locations, namely Soro, Kharagpur, Balasore, Khantapara, Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Bhubaneswar.

Indian Railways remains committed to providing support, assistance, and timely information to the affected individuals and their families during this difficult time. The helpline service will continue to operate without interruption to ensure the seamless delivery of services and aid to those in need.
