Indian Railways’ Integral Coach Factory Breaks Records with Stellar Performance in Production
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) has outperformed its previous production year, setting new benchmarks in the manufacturing of railway coaches. In the fiscal year 2023-24, ICF rolled out a remarkable 2829 coaches, surpassing the previous year’s tally of 2702 coaches. Notably, this year’s production witnessed the highest number of Distributed Power Rolling Stock (DPRS) coaches ever produced, totaling 1091 coaches. This milestone eclipses the previous record of 996 DPRS coaches set in the production year 2018-19. Among the coaches manufactured, 1738 belong to the LHB category, while DPRS coaches encompass various types such as Vande Bharat, EMU, and MEMU.
Highlighting the accomplishments of the 2023-24 production year, several noteworthy achievements stand out. Firstly, ICF recorded the highest production of 51 Vande Bharat rakes, including 45 eight-car rakes and six sixteen-car rakes, a substantial increase from the previous year’s 12 rakes. Additionally, the factory manufactured two rakes of 22 coaches each for the Amrit Bharat Express, enhancing amenities for long-distance passengers with features like folding snack tables, mobile holders, cushioned luggage racks, and charging points.
Furthermore, ICF produced a record number of 19 Self-propelled Inspection Cars, contributing to safety inspections across Zonal railways. The factory also unveiled the first Oscillograph Monitoring Car for RDSO, Lucknow, aimed at validating the journey quality for passengers in new coaches.
U. Subba Rao, General Manager of ICF, lauded the dedicated efforts of the factory’s staff and officers in achieving these remarkable milestones. In recognition of their contributions, he distributed sweets to the team on April 1, 2024.
