Indian Navy’s New 25T Bollard Pull Tug “Yuvan” Launched in Kolkata

In a significant step towards strengthening India’s naval capabilities, the Indian Navy has launched the fourth 25T Bollard Pull (BP) Tug, Yuvan, built under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives. The tug, constructed by M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) in Kolkata, was unveiled on November 17, 2024, by Cmde Ceasar Basu, Group Commander NCC, Kolkata. During the ceremony, the keel for two additional tugs, Ojas and Sabal, was also laid.

These tugs, being delivered progressively, are designed to assist naval ships and submarines with berthing, un-berthing, turning, and maneuvering in confined waters. The 25T BP Tugs will be deployed at the Indian Navy’s Andaman and Nicobar Command and Eastern Naval Command. They will also play a critical role in firefighting support for naval platforms and conduct limited Search and Rescue operations.

The tugs are being built in accordance with the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) classification rules and are expected to be fully operational by 2025.
