Indian Navy’s Mission-Deployed Warship Rescues Hijacked Vessel and Crew

In a swift and decisive operation, the Indian Navy’s warship, INS Sumitra, engaged in anti-piracy operations along the East coast of Somalia and the Gulf of Aden, successfully ensured the safe release of a hijacked Iranian-flagged Fishing Vessel (FV) named Iman and its crew.

Responding promptly to a distress message indicating the hijacking of FV Iman by pirates and the subsequent hostage-taking of the crew, INS Sumitra took immediate action. Following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the warship coerced the pirates to release the crew and the vessel safely.

The operation resulted in the successful release of all 17 crew members, unharmed, along with the Fishing Vessel. Subsequently, INS Sumitra thoroughly sanitized the vessel, ensuring its safety for onward transit.

The mission-deployed Indian Naval ships engaged in anti-piracy and maritime security operations in the Indian Ocean Region exemplify the Indian Navy’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of all vessels and seafarers at sea. This successful rescue operation underscores the Navy’s dedication to combating piracy and upholding maritime security, contributing to the safeguarding of vital sea routes and the protection of international maritime interests.
