Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps Conducts Intensive Relief Operations in North Sikkim

Gangtok: The Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps has been actively engaged in relief operations in North Sikkim, focusing on the evacuation of over 1200 tourists who have been stranded since June 12-13. Commencing on June 17, troops from the Trishakti Corps have been assisting the civil administration to expedite relief efforts amidst challenging conditions.

Due to numerous landslides, the evacuation process involves transporting tourists on foot and by vehicle wherever feasible connectivity exists. The Indian Army’s signallers played a crucial role in restoring mobile connectivity for BSNL and Airtel on June 18. Since June 12, they have also installed several telephone booths to facilitate communication for locals and tourists with their families.

Medical teams deployed by the Army have set up medical aid stations, providing essential healthcare to residents and tourists in need. Over 115 individuals have received medical attention so far, including a critical emergency response to a 24-year-old suffering from High Altitude Pulmonary Edema and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome at Lachung.

Additionally, all affected individuals have been supplied with essential rations and logistical support to sustain through this challenging period. Indian Army engineers are assisting the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) by providing manpower and resources to restore connectivity in the region.

The Indian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safe evacuation of all stranded tourists and local residents, reaffirming its dedication to service in times of crisis.
