Indian Army Triumphs in Snow Marathon; Shabir Hussain Claims Victory

In a display of unparalleled prowess, the Ladakh Scouts of the Indian Army showcased their dominance in the third edition of the Snow Marathon, held amidst the snow-clad peaks near Manali. Shabir Hussain emerged as the champion of the full marathon, clocking an impressive 03:58:21, while Tenzin Dolma from Manali retained her title in the women’s category with a stellar timing of 04:35:13.

The event, organized by Reach India and Himachal Tourism Department in collaboration with the District Administration, witnessed participation from over 200 runners hailing from India and abroad, marking a significant milestone in the Indian adventure sports calendar.

Due to recent avalanches in Lahaul, the Snow Marathon venue was shifted from Sissu to the picturesque hills of Jana Falls. Despite the logistical challenges posed by blocked roads, runners from Russia, the US, the UK, Sri Lanka, and various parts of India graced the event, adding to its international appeal.

Indian Army’s Tsewang Nangdan clinched victory in the half marathon, clocking an impressive 01:29:14, while Hemlata emerged victorious in the women’s category with a timing of 02:45:58. Jigmet Stubden and Sakshi, both from the Indian Army, dominated the ten-kilometer category, while Armaan Thakur secured victory in the five-kilometer race.

Rajiv Kumar and Gaurav Schimer, the organizers, expressed their satisfaction with the event’s success, highlighting its growing popularity among adventure enthusiasts. Despite the challenges faced, including adverse weather conditions, the Snow Marathon attracted participants from various corners of the country and even abroad, signaling its emergence as a premier adventure sports event in India.

The event received support from sponsors including Fortis Hospital, Campus Shoes, Polaroid, Fast&Up, Red Bull, and Young Gear Watches, underscoring the significance of corporate involvement in promoting adventure sports.

In line with the event’s success, Himachal Tourism aims to elevate Lahaul and Spiti’s status on the global tourism and adventure sports map, envisioning a future where the district becomes a hub for such exhilarating activities.

Event Execution Head Rajesh Chand expressed optimism for future editions, vowing to overcome challenges and make the Snow Marathon an even greater success in the years to come. With continued support and participation, the event is poised to further elevate India’s stature in the realm of adventure sports.
