Indian Army Pays Tribute to Fallen Hero in Siachen Glacier
In a solemn tribute to a fallen hero, Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman, the Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps has offered their deepest condolences to his grieving family. Laxman made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty amid the unforgiving heights of the Siachen glacier.
General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), and all ranks of the Indian Army, paid their respects to the brave Agniveer, marking his supreme sacrifice in the treacherous terrains of Siachen. Laxman, a native of Maharashtra, became the first Agniveer to lose his life while on active duty.
As a gesture of support to the families of Agniveer personnel who lay down their lives in the line of duty, the government has announced substantial financial assistance. The next of kin of these brave individuals will receive over ₹1 crore. This includes ₹48 lakh as non-contributory insurance, ₹44 lakh as compensation, 30% of Seva Nidhi contributed by the Agniveer with an equal matching contribution by the government, and interest thereon. Additionally, the emoluments will encompass pay for the remaining tenure from the date of death until the completion of four years (over ₹13 lakh), as per the balance residual tenure, along with a contribution of ₹8 lakh from the Armed Forces Battle Casualty Fund.
