Indian Army and JKP Eliminate Five Terrorists on LOC in Kupwara Sector: Operation Jumagund

Srinagar, June 16, 2023: In a significant development, five terrorists were neutralized during an operation codenamed “Jumagund” in the Kupwara sector along the Line of Control (LOC). The operation, jointly conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), was launched following credible intelligence inputs of a potential infiltration attempt.

Intelligence agencies had been monitoring the movement of terrorists infiltrating from across the LOC in recent weeks. Acting on a specific input received on June 15, 2023, regarding infiltration along the Jumagund Nar area, a joint operation was initiated in the Keran sector. Multiple ambushes were set up along the suspected infiltration routes to intercept the terrorists.

During the night of June 16, the ambush teams spotted five heavily armed terrorists crossing the Line of Control. Despite challenging weather and terrain conditions, the ambush teams engaged the infiltrators near the fence. A fierce firefight ensued, resulting in the successful elimination of all five terrorists, with no collateral damage reported. The operation continued throughout the night, and a meticulous search of the area was conducted at dawn.

The identities of the eliminated terrorists and their affiliation with any specific terrorist organization are currently under investigation. The security forces recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including five AK series rifles, fourteen grenades, five hundred AK rounds, night vision goggles, and other warlike stores.

This operation highlights the exemplary coordination and cooperation between the Indian Army and JKP, reaffirming their joint commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region. It exposes the true intentions of terrorist groups, which persistently seek to disrupt peace in Kashmir.
