India Meteorological Department Forecasts Varied Weather Patterns Across the Nation
As the country moves forward into the final days of March and the onset of April, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive forecast detailing anticipated weather phenomena across various regions. From Northwest India to the Northeast, and from Central India to the southernmost tip, the IMD’s predictions encompass a wide spectrum of meteorological events.
In Northwest India, light to moderate rainfall coupled with thunderstorm activity is expected from the 29th to the 31st of March. There’s a possibility of isolated heavy falls over the Western Himalayan Region on the 29th and 30th of March, 2024. Meanwhile, in the Northeast, a fresh spell of intense rainfall and thunderstorms is forecasted from the 30th of March to the 1st of April, 2024.
Recent weather observations over the past 24 hours until 0830 hours IST indicate a mixed bag of conditions across different states. Light to moderate rainfall and snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, have been recorded at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Jammu-Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh. Similar conditions were observed at a few places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, and Kerala & Mahe. Additionally, heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places over Tripura.
Furthermore, the IMD has identified various weather systems and issued forecasts and warnings based on their influence. Cyclonic circulations over South Assam and Odisha are expected to result in isolated to scattered rainfall and snowfall with thunderstorms and lightning over several northeastern states. Similarly, a Western Disturbance coupled with induced cyclonic circulations is likely to bring widespread rainfall and snowfall over parts of Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
The IMD also provides maximum temperature observations and forecasts for the next five days, highlighting areas where temperatures are expected to rise or fall significantly. Heat wave conditions are predicted in isolated pockets over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Telangana on specific dates. Conversely, a fall in maximum temperatures is expected in many parts of Northwest India over the next three days.
Impacts and suggested actions are outlined for various weather phenomena, including thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, hailstorms, and heavy rainfall or snowfall. These include measures to protect crops, avoid outdoor activities, and ensure safety in the event of severe weather conditions.
The IMD’s forecasts and warnings serve as crucial guidance for government agencies, farmers, and the general public, enabling them to prepare and take appropriate measures to mitigate the impact of adverse weather conditions. As the nation progresses through the transitional phase from winter to summer, the IMD’s vigilance and forecasts remain instrumental in safeguarding lives and property against the vagaries of nature.
