Continued Heavy Rainfall in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Assam-Meghalaya
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy falls, over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Assam-Meghalaya for the next 48 hours. This will be followed by isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in subsequent periods.
Additionally, severe heat wave conditions are expected to persist across several parts of North India over the next day, gradually easing as a Western Disturbance moves towards Northwest India.
The past 24 hours have seen widespread heatwave conditions in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, with temperatures exceeding 44-46°C. Meanwhile, exceptional rainfall was recorded in Meghalaya and heavy to very heavy rainfall in Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
The Southwest Monsoon’s advance continues across various regions, with predictions suggesting further progress over Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Northwest Bay of Bengal, and parts of Bihar & Jharkhand in the coming days.
Weather Alerts & Systems Forecast
A cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and strong southwesterly/southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal will lead to widespread rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in these areas with isolated extremely heavy falls.
Another cyclonic circulation over Northeast Arabian Sea and Westcentral Bay of Bengal will bring scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada.
Maximum Temperature & Wind Speed
Maximum temperatures ranging from 44-46°C have been reported over most parts of North India, significantly above normal levels. Gusty winds have been observed in various regions, with speeds reaching up to 80 kmph in some areas of Madhya Pradesh.
