IIT Delhi’s 54th Annual Convocation Celebrates Achievements of Graduates
New Delhi, August 12, 2023 – The prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi held its 54th Annual Convocation ceremony on Saturday, marking a momentous occasion for 2357 students who received their degrees and diplomas. The event was graced by Dr. Gagandeep Kang, an eminent virologist and Director at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USA, as the chief guest.
The iconic Dogra Hall of the institute was adorned with scholars, faculty members, staff, students, parents, and esteemed guests for this grand event. Among the notable awardees were Archit Babuna, who secured a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering and was honored with the President’s Gold Medal, and Aditya Vimal, who excelled in B.Tech. Civil Engineering and was bestowed with the Director’s Gold Medal.
The ceremony also recognized the first batch of graduates from various programs, including the M.Tech. in Electric Mobility, Interdisciplinary M. Tech. in Cyber Security, Masters in Public Policy, and Master of Science in Research (MSR) in Materials Science and Engineering. These programs highlight IIT Delhi’s commitment to offering cutting-edge education across diverse fields.

Addressing the assembly, Chief Guest Dr. Gagandeep Kang praised the institution’s vision to contribute to global excellence in scientific and technical education. She urged the graduates to uphold the legacy of rigor, dedication, and excellence that IIT Delhi represents. Dr. Kang highlighted the transformative power of science and technology and encouraged the graduates to use their skills responsibly for the betterment of society.
Dr. R. Chidambaram, Chairperson, Board of Governors at IIT Delhi, lauded the institute’s global reputation and emphasized its ongoing efforts in setting up a campus in Abu Dhabi. He underscored the institution’s diverse academic pursuits and its contribution to both scientific advancement and societal well-being.
Empowering Research Infrastructure
IIT Delhi continues its journey of academic excellence by enhancing its research infrastructure. The institute’s commitment to cutting-edge research is evident through the acquisition of advanced instruments across various departments. These include cutting-edge tools like Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography, Laser Writer for Lithography, GPU Computing Cluster + Storage Server for Genome India Project, and a high-intensity X-Ray Diffraction System with robotics for biomolecular structure determination.

The convocation also celebrated the achievements of esteemed alumni through the Alumni Awards 2023.
