In response to the imminent threat posed by Cyclone “MICHAUNG,” the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has taken swift action by establishing a Crisis Management Cell. This strategic move aims to mitigate potential disruptions and ensure the safety of passengers and the integrity of railway infrastructure.
Preventive Measures Taken:
- 24/7 Helpline for Passengers: ECoR has set up a round-the-clock helpline to provide passengers with vital information and assistance during the cyclone. The helpline numbers include 0674 – 2301525, 2301626, and 2303060 in Bhubaneswar. Additional numbers for Visakhapatnam and Khurda Road will be activated from tomorrow morning.
- Enhanced Patrolling: To safeguard vulnerable locations, patrolmen and watchmen have been deployed for intensified patrolling.
- Additional Control Rooms: ECoR has established an extra Control Room and Disaster Management Cell at Divisional Headquarters in Visakhapatnam, Khurda Road, and Sambalpur. These facilities will bolster coordination and response efforts.
Disaster Management Plans: ECoR has undertaken meticulous preparations and groundwork to manage the potential impact of Cyclone “MICHAUNG” within its jurisdiction. Leveraging early meteorological predictions and learning from past disaster management experiences, the railway authority is geared towards the swift restoration of train traffic and railway tracks, should they be affected by the cyclone.
ECoR General Manager, Manoj Sharma, has issued directives to officials, emphasizing the importance of remaining vigilant through continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations. He also stressed the need for the early mobilization of resources to ensure the rapid restoration of tracks, signaling systems, and overhead electrical installations.
Train Cancellations: In light of the evolving cyclone situation, ECoR has decided to cancel additional trains, in addition to those previously announced. The affected trains include:
- 17482 Tirupati-Bilaspur Express from Tirupati on December 3, 2023.
- 17481 Bilaspur-Tirupati Express from Bilaspur on December 5, 2023.
- 17480 Tirupati-Puri Express from Tirupati on December 4, 2023.
- 17479 Puri – Tirupati Express from Puri on December 6, 2023.
- 12509 Bengaluru-Guwahati Express from Bengaluru on December 6th and 7th, 2023.
- 18190 Ernakulam-Tata Express from Ernakulam on December 6, 2023.
