Cyclone “DANA” Makes Landfall on Odisha-West Bengal Coasts
Severe Weather Alert Issued as Landfall Process Begins
The severe cyclonic storm “DANA” is making its way toward the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal, with landfall officially commencing. As of October 24 at 11:30 PM IST, the storm was located about 50 km east-northeast of Paradip, Odisha, moving north-northwest at a speed of 15 km/h.
Meteorological experts predict that “DANA” will cross the coasts between Puri and Sagar Island, particularly near Bhitarkanika and Dhamara, within the next 3 to 4 hours. Wind speeds are expected to reach between 100-110 km/h, with gusts potentially hitting 120 km/h.
The landfall process is underway, with the forward sector of the storm’s wall cloud entering the land. This process is expected to continue into the morning of October 25.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation through the Doppler Weather Radar at Paradip, urging residents in affected areas to prepare for severe weather conditions as the cyclone approaches. A red alert has been issued for coastal regions, and residents are advised to stay updated on safety measures and evacuation plans.
