Bullet Train Construction Accelerates in Palghar & Thane Districts, Maharashtra
Significant progress marks the construction of the bullet train corridor in Maharashtra’s Palghar and Thane districts, with key developments unfolding in the elevated section. Spanning a total of 135 km from Shilphata near Mumbai to Zaroli village on the Maharashtra-Gujarat border, this segment involves intricate engineering challenges.
The elevated section encompasses six mountain tunnels, 36 crossings including 11 steel bridges, and river bridges over major waterways like Ulhas, Vaitarna, and Jagani rivers. Notably, the longest river bridge of the project, spanning 2.32 km, lies across the Vaitarna river in this stretch.
Thane, Virar, and Boisar are the three bullet train stations included in this section, all situated within the Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR). Serving as vital suburban hubs of Mumbai, these stations witness heavy commuter traffic daily, facilitated by various modes of transportation.
Key updates on the construction package, named MAHSR-C-3, include:
- Completion of land acquisition, with cleaning and grubbing operations covering 78 km.
- Ongoing geotechnical investigations, surpassing 50% completion.
- Progress in open foundation construction at 19 locations, with work underway at 42 sites.
The enclosure provides visual insights into the construction sites across Palghar and Thane districts, offering a glimpse into the ongoing efforts shaping the future of high-speed rail connectivity in Maharashtra.
